Royal Enfield 650s are hot property

Clash of the oldest and youngest • Sunday 24th March was the day when WA’s oldest acknowledged road racer and the state’s youngest road racer were on the same race card for the very first time.

Under the Chequered Flag

A swinging lady • The first female to compete at the Isle of Man TT, Ingeborg Stoll was a champion of the chair. With rider Jacques Drion, the successful duo represented a fine example of French-German friendship in post war times.

A short history of SRI LANKAN TT RIDERS • Sri Lankan-born Chris Pereira has lived in England since 1955 and is the author of several books on the history of motorcycle racing. Here he reveals the little-known background to aspiring international riders from his home country.

Hand-built hot rod • “Winningest dirt-track 250 in America. Amazing acceleration. Buy it and make a shelf for your trophies,” proclaimed the 1966 Yamaha advert for their Ascot Scrambler.

SPLIT PERSONALITY • If you’ve never heard of an Isomoto motorcycle, you’re not alone. When I spied this funny little bike with its tiny wheels in Classic Style Australia in Melbourne, I initially thought it was a home-made special. Then owner Jon Munn explained to me it was no such thing; it was in fact a pedigree Italian marque, and not only that, it was bloody fast. So I did some homework…

A legend returns • If you owned a Triumph Speed Twin 81 years ago you were in a very elite league – the first British parallel twin in mass production, and a design that would be imitated by almost the entire industry.

The super tourer, refined. • It’s hard to believe that Yamaha’s FJR1300 is now almost 20 years old. Introduced in 2001, the FJR has come to define the...
