Redfern Motorcycles’ final fling

Bulli’s big weekend draws nearer

New Zealand Show dates announced

History under the hammer

New promoter for Sydney Speed Festival

Sydney Motorcycle Show moves south • Troy Bayliss Events has announced two major motorcycle events coming to Wollongong over one weekend in November.

Australian Historics naming sponsor • The Historic Competition Motorcycle Club of WA has announced that Making Smoking History will be the naming rights sponsor for the 2019 Australian Historic Road racing Championship from September 27-30th.

Murray Sayle retires

Wakefield Park’s quarter century

We’ve got your number

Ron Weste • Doyen of the Kawasaki K1300 scene in Australia and highly respected overseas, RON WESTE passed away on Easter Saturday at his home in Victoria.

John Chaplin • One of speedway’s foremost historians, JOHN CHAPLIN, passed away in March, aged 85 in UK.

Royale Flush • From circling Sydney Showground to circumnavigating the continent Jim Airey is still on one helluva ride.

STOUT FELLOW • There was not much to get excited about in Britain in 1945, apart from winning the war that is. The country was in economic ruin, thanks to the war effort. But there was a strong desire to get on with life, however frugal it may have been, and to switch factories back to civilian production after six years of military endeavours.

A Tassie terror The V-twin AJS record breaker • Record breaking was big business between the wars, and supercharged V-twins were the design of choice for many of the intrepid pilots.

A luscious Latin • These days, Laverda is indelibly associated with high performance twins and triples, plus of course the near-legendary V6 Endurance Racer. But the company built its motorcycling fortunes on much simpler fare, like the dainty 100cc single featured here. As 2019 represents the 90th anniversary of Laverda’s existence, it’s a fitting opportunity to look at one of the lesser-known examples to emerge from the factory at Breganze, in the Dolomites in the north-eastern corner of the Italian peninsula.

French Boxer • “My Ratier is better than any BMW!” proclaimed my new friend Marcel as he knocked back what surely wasn’t his first shot of marc that morning (it’s the French version of grappa) as another little helper to get him through his day.

The Morgan Mile Morgan, South Australia • Situated on the intersection of the main roads from Adelaide in the south west, Burra in the north west, and Renmark to the east, Morgan sits on a bend in the Murray River. For many years, it was the place where fast bikes raced, and to be successful you needed skill, bravery, and a quick motor.

HONDA’S CAFÉ CAPER • The latest restoration to emerge from the OBA home workshop is a Honda with a unique character; a tilt at capturing the charisma of the British big single road burner…

Joining the singles club • Sue Scaysbrook discovers a new side of motorcycling…

Instrument of thought • In Sanskrit, Mantra means ‘instrument of thought’, and Bimota’s version certainly promotes plenty of thought.

Half motorcycle, half tractor • The Kettenkraftrad, or...
