Editor’s Note

Behind the Issue

December/January • WHAT’S ON THE ELLE EDITORS’ RADAR RIGHT NOW.

GET COZY • HIBERNATING INDOORS DOESN’T MEAN YOU CAN’T STAY BUSY.

Teyonah Parris • MARVEL’S LATEST STAR IS SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS.

PLEASURE PRINCIPLE • Dressing for The End calls for glamour.

Fine ART • Lady Dior goes through another reinvention.

WHITE PARKAS

Hidden GEM

Spencer Badu • On creating a nonconformist style code.

The FIND • ROLEX DESIGNED THE world’s first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster, in 1926 with endurance in mind. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the classic style is still ticking and has been reimagined for 2020 with a bold new face (glow-in-the-dark markers!) and slick perpetual-motion technology. Called the Oyster Perpetual, the sleek timepiece is thankfully still made with the brand’s trademark steel alloy—typically used in aerospace because it can endure the harshest of environments. Because, seriously, that’s the tough-as-nails attitude we all need to make it through to the end of the year.

Drape On • There’s no hiding behind these attention-grabbing tapestry prints.

Juicy Fruit • Sweeten up your style with head-to-toe berry tones.

Tinseltown • Canadian darlings Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy reunite for the holidays.

The Battle of Stuff &STYLE • For years, we’ve been making trend-driven impulse buys; will this crisis-filled moment help us refocus on the essential purpose of fashion?

WE WILL SURVIVE • Even though we rarely see anyone, makeup has become a necessary tool to help us feel normal during this distinctly abnormal time.

ELLE LOVES

Level UP • Two skincare beauty brands are moving beyond ingredient lists and rehauling their production processes to increase their sustainability.

Skin SAVER

The EDIT • The beauty products we’re coveting now.

SHE’S all THAT • VIOLA DAVIS has done the work to reach her truth.

Spirited AWAY • How mixologists and perfumers alike are learning to trust their noses.

Eye Candy • Bold statements using Dior Makeup look modern when set against an otherwise bare face. Think graphic geometric shapes, lids in electrifying tones and streaks of colour applied with an inspired brush stroke.

INSIDE Job • Prominent women in public office say that systemic sexism needs a political shakedown.

Lockdown LETDOWN • EMILY TAMFO on how 2020 became the year of letting go of lofty goals.

Pride & Prejudice • It’s time to give chick lit—and its onscreen adaptations—the credit it deserves. Netflix’s new romantic drama BRIDGERTON is a step in the right direction.

Meet the PLAYERS • Breaking down the entanglements in Netflix’s sweeping, lavish adaptation of BRIDGERTON.

THIS IS LETITIA WRIGHT • UNAFRAID, UNA POLOGETIC, UNSTOPPABLE, UNMISTAKABLE.

A SIGN OF THE TIMES • PUSH A SIDE THE BOUNDARIES THAT ONCE DEFINED DRESSING FOR DAY OR NIGHT AND LEAN INTO THE SURPRISING FREEDOM THAT CAN BE FOUND IN A HEADY, DECIDEDLY-R IGHT-NOW MINGLING OF AIRY CHIFFON AND COZY SWEATS.

CARE PACKAGE • We’re clutching every comfort right now—and holding on tight to the hottest handbags of the season, which boast soothing structure, compelling hues and eye-catching textures.

PURE & SIMPLE • Magazine editor Rosa Park has curated a modern retreat in historical Bath.

Feel Good • Spread the warmth in your home with bold, rich hues.

Sweet Escape • Bliss awaits at the St. Regis Toronto’s luxe new spa.
