Real Classic

Mar 01 2021
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

Living WITH Legends yet again • Paul Miles girds his loins, ready to do battle with a famously ornery example of the ultimate classic motorcycle. However, this 500 Velocette single has several surprises in store for him…

INCOMING!

BARN Found • It’s sometimes a surprise when a bike gets dragged out into the light for the first time in years. And sometimes it’s no surprise at all. Frank Westworth unearths an old friend…

Substitute SIX- FIFTY • British bike enthusiast Henry Gregson didn’t want to ruin his BSA 650 by riding it through the winter. So he swapped to something similar in size and style from Japan Inc…

A CONTINENTAL Compulsion • James French has a soft spot for Enfield’s sporting 250 singles. He’s owned a few, and suffered a bad case of seller’s regret after parting with one in particular…

BUYER’S EYE • You asked us to investigate what’s happened to the values of classic British motorcycles at the affordable end of the spectrum. Rowena Hoseason discovers that lightweight two-strokes and smaller four-strokes are selling like hot scones by the Cornish seaside. So what does a budget of £3000 buy these days?

BEEZER BONANZA

HAPPY HUNTING!

Rough RUNNING • Oily Boot Bob’s bike was misbehaving when hot. He eventually traced the trouble to an extremely unlikely oil leak…

THE FINISHING Flourish • Once the mechanical rebuild has bankrupted your children’s college fund, you’re almost over the finishing line, surely? Not with that scabby petrol tank and mismatched sidepanels, you’re not. Morgan Rue sprays away…

PUKKA PROTECTION

Blinkin WINKERS • Flashing turn signals can be a boon on busy roads, but they can also be tricky to fit to ancient motorcycles. Dave Simmons explores a quick-fit alternative…

Va benissimo! • Stu Thomson bought a 1960 Bernina 125 from an Italian collector, and set about its restoration. This month he explores inside the engine…

PUB TALK • On the legend of half a Square Four
