THIS MONTH’S STAR LETTER WINS

Mote control • The Jack Thompson Classic Bike Trial at Canada Heights in Swanley on April 4, 2021, saw a return to competition for many eager riders, with the Mote brothers taking the honours.

SAMMY MILLER MUSEUM

Ascot-Pullin 500 Sports Utility

Rare sight • Want to pilot a vehicle that makes children stop, stare and point, plus raises a smile on even the grumpiest of lockdown-wearied faces? Then you need a sidecar outfit!

Magnificent machine • This incredibly rare Benelli single, full of provenance, is an unmolested example of a factory racer.

Spring into action • Lockdown had ended, the sun was shining, and we’d moved onto British summer time… It was the ideal moment to fuel up two favourite old motorcycles and head for the coast.

THE MACHINES

False dawn • The 650cc CSR models from Matchless and AJS could’ve been the firm’s finest hour, though after a promising start, they simply added to the beleaguered business’s woes.

Store cupboard special • May the congregation please be seated, and open your issue to the Lockdown Velocette, part 11.

Bespoke Auto Works

Rochdale’s racer • TT racer, motorcycle dealer, Home Guard sergeant and man of mystery – the life of Ben Drinkwater is as varied as it is mysterious.

A brief chat with... GRAHAM FORSDYKE • The key to the executive washroom and other motorcycling tales revealed by a former journalist and bike aficionado.

INDIAN CHIEF 1922-53

The current state of play • Positive progress in finding sparks thanks to advice from readers and Boyer, plus a bit of extra cash in the coffers, means a kit can be bought.
