Magazine

In-Fisherman is for the avid freshwater angler. Each issue provides detailed instructions and demonstrations on catching, cleaning, and eating your favorite species of fish, and reports on the latest scientific studies concerning fish and habitat conservation. This is the source for finding fishing hotspots, new tackle, effective equipment, and more!

In-Fisherman

Tinkerings, Dabblings, Experiments, and Such • Each season I have in mind at least a couple techniques that I want to experiment with. Some of them are mostly new, as when we first used the rippin’ technique with the newly introduced (at the time) Rapala Rippin’ Rap.

Effects of Introduced Muskies • Blending Fishery Science with Everyday Fishing

Fish Optimum Temperatures

Catfish Flavors

ADVENTURES • Feature Travel Tips from In-Fisherman Staff & Friends

STAFF Noteworthy & New • New and Unique Fishing Stuff, as Reviewed by the In-Fisherman Staff

BASS Strike SAVVY • Ever since humans adopted pole-and-line tactics, they’ve been forced to wonder why fish bite some days and not others. In the last year or two, pro anglers have told me about locating bass on their sophisticated sonars (the ones I call “all seeing sonars” that can scan around the boat to depict fish chasing lures), but failing to elicit much reaction. More than a few have rued spending hours looking at fish, but hauling water.

WHEN Smallmouths PREFER Salad • Last summer, way up north on a small lake, we found a shoreline evenly distributed with rocks and weeds, almost as if stitched together by a glacial seamstress. Along the shoreline, 100 feet of weeds are followed by 100 feet of rock, and so on.

FLOATS for SUMMER WALLEYES High & Low High & Low • More than a few walleye aficionados look down their noses at bobbers as basic presentations best suited to kids and cane poles. Truth be told, modern floats and the systems devised to fish them rank high among the deadliest presentations, in a w de range of situations.
