Anything to say?

Looking for a restoration project – do I need help?

Inspiration – Jack Hough • Sometimes this job really is the best in the world, like when Jack Hough sent in a few words about building his own bikes. Yes, really. This is his story about a life of bikes and how it led Jack to building what he wanted. Jack, you are an inspiration.

My Dad – and his bikes • A love for old bikes – and classic bike magazines – has led to a trip down memory lane for one CBG reader and his daughter

Fancy a day out? • Good lord, is it autumn already? Well, not quite, but the nights are drawing in, so we should all make the most of it. September is packed with bike events and there is something for everyone. Watch out for damp patches and fallen leaves – but at least the tourists who stayed here clogging the roads because they couldn’t go to Malaga have gone home. The usual caveats apply: please be aware that these listings are accurate as we go to press, but all events are subject to change and/or cancellation. We recommend checking with the organisers before packing your spanners, waterproofs, Kendal Mint Cake and iron rations. Have fun! And don’t forget to let us know about your own events.

Malle Mile How bike events should always be • The Malle Mile is branded as an ‘inappropriate motorcycle race and festival’. Intrigued, we went along to race inappropriately and be festive

Norton Model 77 • Is this the unsung hero of the 1950s Norton line-up? Oli finds out about the oft-forgotten Norton Model 77

NORTON MODEL 77

EUROPEAN BIKE GUIDE • Your 12-page guide to the best (and the average, and even the not so good) European classic bikes.

They’re only original once. My good ol’ days • Oli feels restorations are beautiful to behold, but do they lose their spirit? And what of electric bikes? I wasn't around in the 1950s and 1960s – but I was in the 1990s...

Rubber Band Drive

Project Morini • Good news and bad news

Project BMW • The painting stops reacting and the brakes are starting to stop – where are the problems?

Famous Last Words • Sometimes, a relationship is just not to be, as Frank and Norton’s 650SS have always known...
