Real Classic

Jan 01 2022
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

Real Classic

GOES ANYWHERE DOES ANYTHING • Is Triumph’s unit construction 650 twin the ultimate all-rounder? Dave Simmons converts an old police machine into a rugged off-roader to answer that very question...

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on...

THE GO-TO GUZZI • This issue we’re all about practical classics for real world riding. Ace Tester Miles wonders whether a 50 year-old Italian single is a credible candidate for his regular rides...

COMBINED EFFORT • You could be forgiven for thinking that this Enfield outfit was built by the factory, perhaps as a pre-production prototype. Far from it: Alan Styler explains how two men put it all together (with a little help from their friends)

Fore & Aft • Before WW1, the ‘fore and aft’ flat-twin engine layout found favour with many manufacturers, and with engineer Granville Bradshaw. Stuart Francis uncovers a couple of his creations – and a completely unique Australian interpretation of this type of motorcycle...

HYBRID HARLEY FROM A VELO FELLOW • Take a traditional British frame and add a traditional American engine. The result? The Goodman. Alan Cathcart tells and interesting tale...

SINGLE-MINDED • Last month, Paul Henshaw looked at the C15, C25 and B25. This month he moves onto bigger single-cylinder Beesas...

OUTWARD BOUND • Dates, times and places for your 2022 classic calendar...

RIDING life • The Ariel Colt which appeared in RC211 rang big bells with reader Colin Leigh field; this was how his career in classic motorcycling started...

RIDING life • When Edward Braso decided to slow down (slightly), he swapped Japanese rocketships for a Rocket Goldie...

Classic Techniques • Stu Thomson has been upgrading his fuel systems to deal with E10 petrol... with mixed results!

Classic Techniques • Is it possible to convert a Lucas magneto to electronic ignition, asked an enquiring RC reader. Yes it is, answered Doug Cross, and here’s how he accomplished exactly that...

PUB TALK • Cyclemotors, auctions and exhaust pipes. PUB is on the move!

Ollie’s ODDJOBS

TALES FROM THE SHED • One small step forward... three giant leaps back. Frank’s been suffering from a case of Sunbeamitis
