Real Classic

Mar 01 2022
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

Real Classic

Three’s No Crowd • Three cylinders in the engine, five gears in the box. Frank Westworth hits the high road with an old favourite…

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on…

One OWNER from NEW • There are some bikes you just can’t see yourself ever selling. Trevor Cook celebrates 40 years with a Plastic Maggot

War Wheels • The market for military motorcycles is a tempting target for many manufacturers. Norton even built a prototype twin to tempt it. And it was a sidevalve. And there’s a sole survivor. And Alan Cathcart rode it, of course…

WRITE 4 REAL • Have you got something to say about your old bike? Would you like to see your P&J preserved on the printed page? Claim your 15 minutes of fame and write for RealClassic…

SIGHT UNSEEN • Some folk are comfortable with buying bikes from distant dealers, but others would prefer to kick the tyres in person. These days, that’s not always possible. Paul Dale undertook the risky business of buying an Italian classic over the internet…

FAST LUXURY

MYSTERY Machine • When a motorcycle is almost a hundred years old, it can be a bit tricky to understand its story. A friend of Odgie’s discovers a slice of living history, a machine hiding several secrets in its patinated past…

COMMANDO ACCELERANDO • If you don’t notice the large lettering on the side panels, you might assume this is just another owner-upgraded Commando roadster. In fact it’s a sneaky sleeper, crammed with race components. Brian Oakley bought it… by mistake

DUNSTALL’S BIG BORE

OUTWARD BOUND • Rides, rallies, shows and jumbles! Point your wheels this way…

Super STOPPING • Many Enfield owners have wondered how to improve their classic’s braking performance, and they experiment with multiple modifications. Marko Mudryj came up with his own solution…

FLASH BACK! • Last month, Simon Blease bought and stripped an XS. Now he puts it all back together again, as a tribute to his long-lost FS1-E. Enter the XS1-E, aka the Popsicle Peril…

Ollie’s ODDJOBS

PUB TALK • A new year is upon us, Vintage Stony is back, and the Léon Bollée has had its first run for two whole years!

TALES FROM THE SHED • Go. Stop. Go. Stop. Go again… Frank has been having fun – or at least attempting that thing
