Real Classic

Apr 01 2022
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

WHO’S DONE WHAT

A legendary INTERLUDE • Laverda twin owner Adam Sheriff has always wondered what it’s like to ride a Jota. He finally secures an afternoon in the saddle. Can the fabled triple live up to its legend?

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on...

BOULEVARD Boxer • Specials are always intended to improve upon their donor machines. Some are less successful than others, as Alan Cathcart reveals...

MEANDERING Mabsa • Meander: to walk slowly without any clear direction. Most projects start with a clear sense of direction, but this Matchless motor and an A10 bicycle came together entirely through happy happenstance. Odgie explains how...

ALSO ATLAS POWERED...

QUARTER-LITRE CHARMER • Extracting extra performance from a pre-war 250 AJS may be entertaining. But it sure ain’t easy, as Paul Henshaw confirms...

MORE FROM PAUL

THE SINGLES’ STORY

TEENAGE DREAMS • Remember your first motorcycle? Was it the bike of your dreams? Robert Finan missed out on his dream machine at the age of 16, but that didn’t stop him tracking one down in later life...

Riding Life • Motorcycling: nature or nurture? Les Rowland reckons it runs in the genes...

SHOWSTOPPERS • At last! Classic bike shows are back in full swing. While the proper judges made their official selections at the Bristol Classic MotorCycle Show, Rowena Hoseason selected an alternative array of RealClassic motorcycles for your consideration…

OUTWARD BOUND • Rides, rallies, shows and jumbles! Point your wheels this way...

THE BEST OF BOTH • Take an Enfield engine from one model range and insert it into an Enfield chassis from another: what could possibly go wrong? Stephen Herbert discovers that it’s not quite as straightforward as it sounds...

NO POINT OF REFERENCE • Mark Adams was led astray at an early age by a scruffy little bike magazine, which sold him on the concept of an oil-in-frame BSA 650. He bought his A65 back in 1990 and has been trying to make it work ever since...

Ollie’s ODDJOBS

PUB TALK • At the 2022 Bristol Classic Bike Show, PUB was captivated by Jap bikes – but perhaps not quite as the Reader might think...

TALES FROM THE SHED • Balance in all things. Frank has been enjoying a little success in The Shed. But the other thing too. Warning: Great expense is discussed in here…
