Book Review
The classic king of Brands • The CRMC event at Brands Hatch on May 7/8 saw a plethora of machines come to the grid, with the Lansdowne races spiced up by some alternative machinery.
Old among the new • In the tough 1935 Land’s End Trial, the appearance of P T Keen on a 1913 Triumph was enough to draw comment in both The Motor Cycle and Motor Cycling.
Alpine holiday • This account of a touring trip to Italy documented 27 Alpine passes in a 2600-mile jaunt, on a Shooting Star duo.

Going up in the downs • The Snow-Mann Test Day, on May 1, provided lots of fun for a wildly varied selection of motorcycles, scooters and three-wheelers.
RESULTS
Classy café racing • The Rickman brothers’ Metisse motorcycles found success on both dirt and road racing stages, while their sporty road offering was a splendid piece of kit too.
SAMMY MILLER MUSEUM
Power-plus! • This original paint 1916 Indian Powerplus, which was acquired by its owner from the son of the original purchaser, proves that the model’s name was well suited.

Recovery position • Replacement of some worn, corroded or damaged components with available parts can be impossible when restoring older motorcycles. Solutions include having new items fabricated, or, in some cases, salvaging the worn items..
A star is born • During a Plumstead bonanza, a Matchless G45 pushrod twin won the Senior race, AMC machines shattered records and future breaker of the Mountain Course 100mph barrier Bob McIntyre (AJS) recorded IoM win number one in his first year on the Island, as well as finishing second, on his Junior AJS, in the Senior race.
A brief chat with... …John Young • From BSA Bantam to Son of Sam, John Young’s passion for the British motorcycle industry was fuelled by a soul-stirring article.

Diary
Better late than never • Every day is a school day, with some new – albeit perhaps overdue – knowledge acquired in a roundabout fashion, thanks to the unlikely combination of an ATCO lawnmower and a Puch Maxi.
Keep on riding • Small capacity motorcycles, wherever they’re made, offer an attractive, practical...
