Brought to you by Penguin.
The gripping new psychological thriller from the No. 1 bestselling author of My Lovely Wife.
Beth, Eddie and Portia are siblings.
Beth is devious, calculated and ruthlessly manipulative.
Eddie is controlling and will do anything to get what he wants.
Portia, the youngest, is much smarter than she's given credit for.
But they all have one thing in common:
An incident that happened when they were children, that has now forced them back together.
But that was just the beginning . . .
And it can only end with murder.
Because no-one is more dangerous than the ones who know you best . . .

Beth Morgan’s wryly humorous narration belies the high-stakes skullduggery that awaits her and her two estranged adult siblings on the cross-country road trip they’re forced into taking with their grandfather’s ashes in order to claim slices of his fortune, in this deliciously devious psycho thriller from Downing (My Lovely Wife). According to the terms of the will, Beth, overbearing big brother Eddie, and frosty baby sister Portia must retrace the oddball odyssey westward from Atlanta they took 20 years earlier with gramps, a traumatic trip that was intended to give their parents some alone time to save their marriage but would tear their family apart. The reboot starts inauspiciously with a truck running the travelers off the road in rural Alabama and subsequently tailing them. As backstabbing, bizarre occurrences (including the disappearance of the ashes) and betrayals pile up, Downing discloses the clan’s deeply buried secrets. The journey ends in a shocking, if head-spinning, showdown in the Nevada desert. Those with a taste for suspense with a wicked kick will be rewarded. Author tour. Agent: Barbara Poelle, Irene Goodman Literary.

Karissa Vacker narrates a wickedly fun thriller about three estranged siblings who re-create a cross-country road trip they took with their grandfather 20 years earlier. Not only are Beth, Eddie, and Portia Morgan forced to drive across the U.S. together, but their grandfather's will has a specific itinerary they must follow or they risk losing their inheritance. The presence of Beth's husband and Eddie's wife only makes things more tense--not to mention that early on someone runs them off the road and then starts tracking them. The story is primarily conveyed by Beth, and Vacker's narration is well attuned to the character's darkly droll personality and slippery perspective. Listeners who like thrillers with a morbid sense of humor and dysfunctional families will find a lot to enjoy here. A.T.N. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine
