The Classic MotorCycle

Doggy transport • This home-made carrying device was apparently popular with its furry occupant, as well as being a familiar sight on the roads of 1930s Cornwall.

Cole and pals top the bill

Couple of rarities in Bonhams’ auction

National Motorcycle Museum Live

Richard finally bags a win at Goodwood

THE WAY WE WERE IN NOVEMBER

Book Review

Unlikely hill climber • Watching the starter, a competitor gets ready to head off at a south Dublin speed event.

Readers’ Letters • YOUR VOICE & YOUR OPINIONS

Purple reign • Bill Turner has owned his T100SS from eight months shy of new. That’s more than half of his lifetime – and its condition does him credit.

Four wheels good, two wheels better… • The GP Retro du Puy Notre-Dame in 2023 was held over the weekend of July 29/30, welcoming, as ever, a fine and eclectic field of classic machinery, to celebrate its silver anniversary.

The little big guys • As well as being late to the motorcycle making party, Greeves was actually a tiny concern – though its achievements were anything but small.

Tony’s treasures • The private collection of the late Tony East, ARE proprietor, comes under the auctioneer’s gavel at Bonhams’ sale on October 14/15 at Stafford.

Trip of a lifetime • After five years of planning and preparation, an epic solo ride to the Sahara on an 81-year-old motorcycle proved an unforgettable experience. This is how it panned out...

Old faithful • Netley Marsh Eurojumble is a great place to buy and sell. However, on this occasion it was purely, deliberately a window shopping exercise, between the showers.

Only the brave • The pioneering days of motorcycle Isle of man TT racing presented riders with challenges that they’d hitherto not encountered.

Beaulieu’s big one • The International Autojumble at Beaulieu, in the grounds of the Montagu family’s estate, remains one of the biggest historic vehicle events in the world.

In a roundabout way • This splendid example of BSA’s Model B round tank sat in boxes for 50 years until the current owner fulfilled a promise.

Past, present and future • It was a broad church of powered two- (and occasional three-) wheeled machinery for the Brooklands Motorcycle Day, held on July 2, 2023.

Framing ideas • Every motorcycle tester for the past 100 years has critiqued the handling, stability, comfort and manoeuvrability of test motorcycles. These factors are dependent on good chassis design, though said design may also be a style statement.

MZ TS250 and Supa 5

Properly seated • Fitting a seat pan to a motorcycle can be done in many ways, but the most popular is to use brackets.

Diary

The cult of cubes • Is bigger always best? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean much, especially in the leisure motorcycling market.

The Goldtop spins again • Starting with a metaphorical journey down memory lane and ending with a physical trip and a new jacket in the wardrobe.
