Releasing potential • Of the many reasons for choosing a particular bike for a project the statement ‘I thought it might be a challenge’ isn’t always the most sensible one.

Talking Italian • After two years of showcasing its MX products at the highest level of the 125cc scene, Gilera launched its production 125 in 1981.

In the frame • With production constraints dictating design, manufacturers must compromise and offer the market something not quite ideal… there are those who can improve things later though.

The right kit • The realisation that a legal loophole meant kit-form motorcycles avoided Purchase Tax was good news for bike manufacturers, including AJS…

Workshop time • As a foil for the festive season a few quiet hours in the workshop are a source of relaxation, or at least they’re supposed to be.

DIRT PRODUCTS • Got something new, something reintroduced, or the latest thing for classic off-road riders in the feet-up, MX or enduro world? Tell us and we’ll put it in here. Contact Sharon in advertising on 01507 529583, email her on srobertshaw@mortons.co.uk or contact editor Tim Britton on CDBEditor@mortons.co.uk

Heat of the moment • The 125cc class was always hotly contested and keeping these small engines at peak performance wasn’t always easy.

On the mark • Was it a five… or a masterly interpretation of the rules as they are this week?

Lights! Camera! Action! • Motorcycles are meant to be ridden, it’s why they were invented… so here’s a reminder of 2023 when, despite the weather, there were some events to ride in.

Rotary club • Where there is a will there is a way and the most unlikely of machines can be pressed into pre65 service, in this case a Wankel-engined trials bike.

DIRT TALK • Write to us at: ClassicDIRTbike, PO Box 99, Horncastle, Lincolnshire LN9 6LZ. CDBeditor@mortons.co.uk

Classic Dirt Bike

Magical’s awesome replica • Though initially viewed as a trials novelty, OSSA got Mick Andrews to work his magic and became a serious contender with a hat trick of SSDT wins.
