Classic Dirt Bike

Issue 72 Autumn 2024
Magazine

Classic Dirt Bike magazine: is about the bikes and personalities of the sport, covering pre-65 machines, classic and twin shocks, trials as well as scrambling/motocross and enduros. There are reader rebuilds from the UK/Europe and North America, event coverage, personality interviews/profiles, letters, products and so much more.

Golden memories • History records fixed starting points which become The Date When It Happened, whatever the ‘It’ may be. But such dates may not be the actual first time.

DIRT NEWS • Want to tell us about a forthcoming event, or have any other dirt bike news to share? Email CDBEditor@mortons.co.uk or track down the editor at a dirt bike show or event.

Family connection • A chance comment at the gym brings a rare Italian MXer almost full circle.

Heir apparent • There’s not a racer around who doesn’t carry a few spares to a meeting in case of mishaps. One way of carting them about is to assemble them into a bike…

Sartorial elegance • A recent invitation to Belstaff’s centenary celebration prompted a look at motorcycle fashion from yesteryear in the dirt bike world.

Eras come and go… • …but what happens next to those stars who were once top dog?

Silky smooth • These days Ken Sedgley’s name is more associated with Silkolene Oils but riding for Greeves in the Sixties was a happy time. This 24TFS is his tribute to those days.

Frustration transferred • Sometimes when the ‘problem’ seems solved it has actually just migrated to another machine.

DIRT PRODUCTS • Got something new, something reintroduced, or the latest thing for classic off-road riders in the feet-up, MX or enduro world? Tell us and we’ll put it in here. Contact Leon in advertising on 01507 529465, email Leon on lcurrie@mortons.co.uk or contact the editor on CDBEditor@mortons.co.uk

Refined Gold • BSA ended Gold Star trials production when it was clear it struggled against lightweights, including the company’s own C15… then came the classic scene.

What’s in a name? • Not every manufacturer bothered to give their machines a name but those who did came up with some corkers.

On the showground • The sun shone for Westmorland Motorclub Ltd’s scramble at the Westmorland County Showground. CDB basked in the weather and took pics too.

British Singles at Alvie • The 2024 Highland Classic Two Day Trial celebrated BSA singles with three appropriate guests of honour… shame about the weather.

DIRT TALK • A letters page is an interesting thing. What will readers write? What do they say? Read it here.

Classic Dirt Bike

Highland reunion • Tony Davis has fond memories of his time with BSA and the B40 he rode in the factory team. He was delighted to be able to ride the bike again, albeit briefly, for the first time in almost 60 years.
