WRITTEN IN THE STARS • Mick Allen never went looking for a Ford Zodiac MkIV, but fate decided that he would have not just any Zodiac, but one of the very best.

MISS SWEDEN'S TRIUMPH ITALIA • The rarest and most exotic of postwar Triumphs is the Italia, designed by Michelotti, executed by Vignale and rolling on a TR3 chassis and drivetrain.

DEFYING CONVENTION • Nobody could accuse the Allegro estate of following the herd. Instead it offered something genuinely different for those prepared to think outside the box.

NOT FOR THE SHY AND RETIRING • There was never anything subtle about a Beach Buggy in the 1970s, and as a design it hasn't got any quieter with age. Andy Starkey digs out his flared trousers and dons the old tie-dyed shirt to do a little California dreamin’.

A THOROUGHLY MODERN MOTOR • Vauxhall's Astra of 1980 represented a new beginning for the company in this market sector, replacing the venerable Viva with a thoroughly modern design that has stood the test of time.

Righting the previous wrongs on the BGT

From the sublime to the ridiculous

Less haste, more speed!

No good deed goes unpunished

A switch to winter driving mode

Is the glass half full or half empty?

MINOR PROJECT • Work starts in earnest with front door refurbishment as Peter Simpson reports on some proper long-term restoration.

FIAT 500 PROJECT • We had hoped to have the engine wired up and plumbed in this month so we could test out the gearbox, but projects rarely go quite to plan!

RATCHET SPANNERS ON TEST • Rob Hawkins has been testing an assortment of ratchet spanners to see if more teeth are a bonus and to discover the best fixed heads, flexi heads and multi-sized tools.

MGC • BMC's replacement for the Austin-Healey 3000 might look like an MGB, but it's all very different to drive and under the skin. Here's what to look for.

YOU MIGHT ALSO CONSIDER… • Classics World editor Simon Goldsworthy and Senior Operations Manager at Lancaster Andrew Evanson each choose one car that they would recommend as an alternative.
