IAIN AYRE IT'S A GAS GAS GAS…

PHIL WHITE THE ROAD NORTH

ROBIN FLETCHER THE WHEAT AND CHAFF

GET A GRIP • The 1989-model Fiat Panda 4x4 owned by Sean Moogan is a car of multi-faceted appeal. It was the perfect transport for a late-vintage Yuppie on a weekend skiing holiday, with their Filofax on the front parcel shelf. It was also a bold and innovative means of combining off-road motoring with a versatile small hatchback at a price within reach of the average motorist.

A FRIEND FOR LIFE • David Beardsley bought his GT6 when he was just 21 years old. He and wife Jo have since taken it to New Zealand and Australia, but the three of them are now back in the UK and getting on together as well as they ever did.

A WORKHORSE AND A THOROUGHBRED • Bob Hirschhorn is a regular and always welcome contributor to our Postbag pages. This time it is our pleasure to share with you one the bigger cars in his collection – this 1985 Citroën CX Safari TRI 2.5 Automatic.

PEOPLE AND PLACES TRAVELLING IN TIME • An old factory in Derbyshire has been converted into an astounding classic car museum with a twist – you can actually drive some of the exhibits.

AGING WITH GRACE AND STYLE • The BMC range of mid-sized Farinas never had a sporting element, despite the presence of variants wearing Riley and MG badges. Instead it was about sharp styling and solid dependability allied to extreme comfort, a dash of luxury and a hefty dose of practicality. As such, the Wolseley 15/60 was arguably the pick of the bunch.

Planes, bikes, boats, vans – and cars

Jaguars and the Gentry

Maggie the MG ZA Magnette

An annoying squeak

Adding in a little more oomph

MORRIS TRAVELLER PROJECT • This month we tackle weatherproofing and fitting a new parcel tray as our Morris Minor Traveller rolling improvement project continues.

FIAT 500 • We complete the structural welding on the nearside by replacing part of the floor, one of the seat runners and two strengthening ribs.

PROJECT VW JETTA GTI • With our Jetta finally running sweetly, we turn our attention towards the MoT test, and a rather sticky problem.

MG RV8 • Introduced to mark the 30th anniversary of the evergreen MGB, the RV8 was built around a modified Heritage bodyshell and became the advance guard that paved the way for what became the MGF. Here’s how to buy one.

YOU MIGHT ALSO CONSIDER… • Classics World editor Simon Goldsworthy and Senior Operations Manager at Lancaster Andrew Evanson each choose one car that they would recommend as an alternative.

THE JAGUAR MK2 FAMILY • The Jaguar Mk2 was in production for less than ten years, but it created a dynasty of saloons and reinforced the marque’s global image. As one brochure put it, the Mk2 built on the 1954-1959 Mk1’s image by ‘effecting improvements to cars already of outstanding design and performance.’

PICK 'N' MIX TREATS • This issue, a random selection of press photos, brochure shots and a little bit of trivia.

The TRUTH about… the Ford Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac Mk2 • The Mk2 range of Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac from Ford were unquestionably stylish, but what about the substance?

FUTURE Classics • Welcome to the section of the magazine that focuses on cars from the 1990s and 2000s, cars which are often accepted as classics...
