Getting Outdoors • This prolific artist’s passion lies in working outdoors within the landscape, creating art which is totally fresh and original. Even the challenges of weather and wildlife will not deter him from painting enthusiastically in Nature’s immense studio.

Autumn Tints – Yarra Valley • Using the Atelier Primer Technique, this artist nurtures natural appearances – tempered by aesthetic selection but not distorted – to tell the truth with pencil and brush, composing and organising natural forms into an expression.

Traditional Style • This masterful artist’s broad range of favourite subjects includes old buildings and homesteads, landscapes and animals … and he also loves to paint boats and water.

Churchill’s Retreat • The artist chose to celebrate a significant boat by making this impressive painting in watercolours. His creative skill honours the 48 foot ketch ‘MvYvalda’ in New Zealand.

Shelena Russell Galleries • Wonderful art galleries are located all over this country, hosting and promoting the work of Australia’s diverse exponents of art. Artist’s Palette magazine showcases a broad selection of these venues. In this Issue, we look at what is described as ‘The Heart of Art’ on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Island Lady • This Queensland artist’s first portrait work is titled ‘Island Lady’ … and this is a title she could proudly wear herself, due to her passion for painting the sunny subjects surrounding her lovely tropical home.

The Family Isles • The view from Queensland’s beautiful Mission Beach inspired this painting which displays the artist’s alluring use of vibrant Jo Sonja’s acrylics.

Paddlesteamer ‘Rodney’ • This painting was a commission the artist received during an eight week painting trip along the Murray River to Coober Pedy – encompassing the Murrumbidgee River and a side trip from the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers to Pooncarie (on the Darling) in western New South Wales.

A Bond with the Bush • Broken Hill is home to this artist who comes from a typical mining family and speaks about her deep-seated love of all things ‘bush’.

Minka and Toby – Electus Parrots • The artist really enjoyed painting this picture, although there were moments of frustration when trying to do justice to the stunning beauty of the birds.

Fantasy and Legend • Originally, this artist drew horses and dragons. When she started to chafe at her technical limitations, she began drawing ‘everything else’. Old legends and sagas still inspire her work.

Femme Fatale • With a touch of the gothic, the artist has created a visual ode to the sirens of the silver screen. It is a combination of some of her favourite themes – beautiful women, clean lines, and a sense of the disturbingly macabre.
