No 188
Magazine

Artist's Palette is the perfect magazine for the aspiring and accomplished artist alike. Provides insights on, as well as step-by-step demonstrations from, Australian and international artists. Featuring the latest in news, reviews and products from the art world as well as exhibition previews and reviews. Artist's Palette is sure to stimulate your artistic sense.

Genesis: A New Direction • Genesis Heat Set Oils have been life changing for this artist … and set her on a new and exciting course.

Natural Design • The Tasmanian landscape inspires this man’s artworks – many of which celebrate design in Nature with (at times) a surreal element.

Still Life with Rocks • This man prefers to work on dark coloured supports with a slight texture (tooth). Smooth surfaces are fine to work on, but they lack the ‘look’ of textured surfaces.

Hours of Practise • While she doesn’t consider herself to be a gifted artist, this lady achieves success through hours upon hours of practise and study … and sometimes through unexpected good fortune.

Rainbow Commotion • When she was invited to do a Demonstration piece, this artist immediately settled on the combination of Rainbow Lorikeets and a colourful rainbow background.

Persistent Urge • Having never lost the urge to paint, this lady has learned from books and developed further through formal training. And she inherited some important artistic skills from her grandmother.

Jack • Fear belongs in the past for this Queensland artist. Previously, when her paintings reached a certain stage she would be frightened to continue … thinking she might ruin what she had already done.

Falls Gallery • Wonderful art galleries are located all over this country, hosting and promoting the work of Australia’s diverse exponents of art. Artist’s Palette magazine showcases a broad selection of these venues. In this Issue, we look at Falls Gallery … located in the beautiful Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

Making a Difference • This artist likes to make a difference in people’s lives … encouraging them to enjoy painting and insisting that they can never be too old to reach their potential.

Reflection • Applying the ‘wet into wet’ watercolour technique for this painting Demonstration, you will need to work fast to get the first layer on before your paint dries.

A Lively Mind • With artistic inspiration seeming to spring from everywhere and anything, this man’s creative mind is lively to any source.

The Whistler • In preparing this Demonstration painting, the artist was mainly interested in achieving an interesting effect … rather than photographic detail.
