Terry’s gong • OBA contributor ad multi-media personality Terry Gallaway has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the Queens Birthday Honours list.

Bulli all set • The 2022 Bulli Antique Bike Weekend on 27-28 August is all set to go with a dazzling line up of events and attractions.

Kiwi show bounces back • After a three year hiatus, the New Zealand Motorcycle Show returned in mid-May, with over 6000 people attending the event in Trusts Arena, Henderson, Auckland.

Shannons auction brings big bucks • The May Shannons auction, with lots from Shannons Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices, achieved outstanding results, with $124,000 changing hands for a 1949 HRD Red Shadow Series C.

Festival of Motorcycling SA – 2022 • The Festival of Motorcycling (FOMSA) team invites everyone to South Australia to enjoy a motorcycle-oriented week of events. Registrations are now open for the 2022 program, scheduled from October 1-9. To book, go to www.fomsa.org.

Back to Bendigo for 2023 VJMC Rally

Geoff Owens • A noted Velocette enthusiast, Geoff Owens from the Sutherland Shire of Sydney, passed away on 27th May, 2022 aged 75 after a long battle with lymphoma.

Ray Quincey • In OBA issue 95, we featured the life of Ray Quincey, son of a famous father, and a rare motorcycling talent whose racing career was cut tragically short. That life came to an end on 20th June, 2022.

Kevin Grant • One of the true stalwarts of New Zealand classic racing, Kevin Grant passed away on 1st June after a long illness, aged 71.

OBA Featured Motorcycle Index • Having recently notched up our 100th issue, we thought it was time to compile a special index of all of the hundreds of motorcycles featured over the past 16 years in the pages of Old Bike Australasia.

A SUPERSTAR in Australia • Imagine if Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi or Fabio Quartararo decided upon a sabbatical in Australia during the break of the MotoGP season. Unlikely. Impossible. But it did happen that the world’s number one road racer packed his bags, and with his attractive Canadian-born wife Mildred, embarked upon a three-month sojourn Down Under in 1936.

A familiar face: in red • If this motorcycle looks familiar, it’s because the basic design, in post-war times, wore many badges, but perhaps none as striking as when it was clothed in Italian Red…

Quite a career • Tainton is a name that has been around Victorian motorcycling circles for decades – Murray and his cousin Phil both deeply involved with the sport in various disciplines. While Phil maintains an active role in race preparation, Murray leads a quieter life, restoring bikes from his home workshop in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

REVVIN’ HEAVEN • A Learner-legal motorcycle that puts of 34kW (45.5hp) at 18,000 rpm? Surely a typo. But no, this is the spec for the Honda CBR250RR that finally hit Australian showrooms in 1996.
