The new executive • As businesses lean into their return-to-office era, stylish workwear climbs to the top of the agenda. But this time, it has a distinctly freer feel. Pack away your loungewear and embrace the season’s modern take on power dressing

agenda

Mellow yellow • Warm colours the shade of freshly churned butter are bringing a touch of sunshine to our AW23 palettes. The creamy hue – as seen in the collections for Givenchy, Prada and Cecilie Bahnsen – is an instant pick-me-up for the darker months, the perfect foil to greys, greens and this season’s must-wear browns. Even the dairy-free amongst us will find it hard to resist this buttery trend…

Introducing: St Agni • Meet the sleek Byron Bay label catering to Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and quiet-luxury enthusiasts worldwide

In conversation: Naomi Klein • In her latest book, the best-selling author investigates conspiracy theories. She opens up to Alexandra Jones about the post-truth moment we’re living in and how this work is unlike all her others

The cult buy • Meet the coats that will define the season, then discover how the ELLE fashion team will style them

Soft power • We track the enduring allure of German brand Marc Cain as it celebrates its 50th anniversary

Art becomes her • Frieze London is one of the most important events in the art calendar. Under artistic director Eva Langret, it’s powered by women – meet the people who will set the agenda at this year’s 20th-anniversary exhibition

welcome to ELLE COLLECTIVE • A community for fashion, beauty and culture lovers

And finally… Rodeo Drive • It’s time to embrace cowgirl-core. The Queen of Country, Dolly Parton, has a new album called Rockstar out this month, with cameos from Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus and Debbie Harry. Rodeo cosplay has already been spotted onstage at Harry Styles’ Love On Tour and Beyoncé’s travelling Renaissance extravaganza. But when we saw the AW23 shows, from DSquared2 to Chloé, teeming with models stomping down the catwalks in Western boots and button-down denim, we knew this trend wouldn’t be galloping off into the sunset anytime soon.

Sign of the times • Whether you’re adding a silver watch to your wrist or layering up in the It coat of the season, the timeless trench, the mood this month is classic with a skewed twist

Watch this space • Yes, your phone can tell you the time, but it doesn’t say anything about your sense of style. Make a statement with oversized bracelets and metallic finishes – newfound punctuality a bonus

Cool commuter • The modern workwear wardrobe is filled with timeless classics – trenches, tailoring and brogues – worn alongside trend-led separates to make sure your look leads the desk-side chat

3 MONTHS OF ELLE FOR JUST £3

Smooth operator • SYNONYMOUS WITH ALL THINGS ICONIC, RALPH LAUREN HAS done it again. The newly birthed RL 888 handbag lives up to the brand’s reputation for executing elegant accessories with plenty of style. Crafted by artisans in Florence, it boasts a smooth top handle, traditional rectangular shape (also available in a champagne finish if you want to make an OTT entrance) and is identifiable by its sleek ‘RL’ hardware. Our verdict? Expect this gem to be glued to your side for the foreseeable.

For the culture • Post-Tomato Girl summer, we’re opting out of alfresco and filling up our calendars once...
