Whatever happend to? DAVID WILLIAMS

LADY IN RED... • Cagiva – ever the bridesmaid in 500cc Grand Prix racing – finally tied the knot 30 years ago when the gorgeous V592 took the factory’s first class win with Eddie Lawson in the saddle.

ALLAN JEFFERIES • In the third of our tributes to Yorkshire’s greatest racing dynasty – the Jefferies family – Classic Racer looks back on the life and career of the man who started it all – Allan Jefferies.

ICONIC METAL #33 1982 SUZUKI RG500 MK.VII

THE KING MAKER! PART TWO • Long-time Honda man Shoichiro Irimajiri has been friend and mentor to some of the best racers of the modern era, as well as designing some of the most beautiful and successful racing and road motorcycles. Peter Starr continues his ride with the king maker, asking how he helped set Freddie Spencer on the path of glory!

1952 RUMI 125CC GOBBETTO • With dramatic looks, a piercing howl and copious smoky exhaust, the Gobbetto left a strong impression on early 1950s Italian racing.

WORLD CHAMPION! PART TWO • It was an adventure: heading out to the grey expanse of the UK and Europe, armed with only enthusiasm, friendship, love and a tent… What could go wrong for Kork Ballington as he took on the world?

CADWELL COOL… • The Classic Racing Motorcycle Club returned to Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire over July 2 and 3 and it didn’t go smoothly! As usual, Classic Racer watched the action, courtesy of Graham Lawlor and Pete Morris.

DONINGTON DELIGHT! • The Classic Racing Motorcycle Club arrived at Donington Park over the weekend of July 30/31. As usual Graham Lawlor and Pete Morris reported back for Classic Racer.

THE DUKES OF WELLINGTON • Nitro-burning Ducatis, a short-stroke Pantah that revved to over 14,000rpm, one of the very first 851 Superbike engines housed in a custom frame. Things got a little crazy in New Zealand in the 1980s. And then came Robert Holden to ride them.

BACK IN THE DAY • Welcome to ‘Back in the Day’ where we want to see all your old photographs from way back when. They could be of you racing, or perhaps you meeting your racing idol – or maybe just snaps you’ve taken at a race event from yesteryear: do be mindful of copyright! There’s a prize for the best! Send them to: BSimmonds@mortons.co.uk

ICONIC METAL: GREGG HANSFORD’S 1977 KAWASAKI KR750

WIN A CLASSIC TWO-STROKE TIMEPIECE!
