COMMENTARY OF THE MONTH!

A celebration of new campsites • Since the COVID-19 pandemic, quite a few new campsites have popped into existence. We've already written about a number of these resorts, but here are another 10 that we've come to know about.

Isuzu drives support for SA women's hockey

JAC of all trades

Four million engines and counting at Struandale

The sixth samurai • The sixth-generation Mitsubishi Triton is due to arrive soon, and Cyril Klopper is looking forward to it.

Quiet down • The KwaZulu-Natal South Coast is a favourite among campers, which means that – especially this time of year – the campsites are bustling and packed to the brim. Never fear, though, if that is your idea of torture, there are quieter options available. We take a look at two of them.

A Jimny jamboree • Nearly 800 Suzuki Jimnys rolled into Clarens in the Free State this September 2023. We joined the convoy to see what such a gathering looks like.

Our journey and camping

On Noah's mountain • Sometimes, it's wise to take a top-down view of affairs, especially when you're kicking back in the comfort of your camping chair.

A loop around old mountains • Sutherland is a charming town for snow and stargazers alike. However, if you've got ants in your pants, there are also six mountain passes and poorts. You won't want to miss the Ouberg Pass.

The Northern Cape roars (again)! • Once a year there's a collective clicking of seatbelts and a symphony of engines revving as a wave of adrenaline sweeps through the crowd. The Drive & Camp Bull Run is truly one of a kind, as seasoned participants and eager first-timers alike can attest at this year's gathering.

Farewell, big fella • The new BMW R 1300 GS is en route, so we take the outgoing 1250 GS for one final ride.

All tow-gether now • Towing with the new Ranger is a team effort: you handle the steering while the tin brain looks after the caravan.

Pieter Crous, our towing expert, weighs in:

A different shade of adventure • Nayela has not only upgraded its Okapi in the last year or two; the new Okapi X takes it another step up.

2023 IN REVIEW • When we're not camping, we're on our way to a campsite. Here's our camping life at Drive & Camp by numbers over the past year.

Snakes: myths and misconceptions • Venturing into the wild on an overland trip, you're likely to encounter snakes. Here are 20 common misconceptions – and the facts – about these ancient creatures.

‘Tis the Season! • It's that time again for togetherness, summer holidays, and presents under the Christmas tree. We bring you 18 products – each costing less than R1 000.

Hop on the gravy train! • The secret of this feast lies in the six delectable sauces.

CROSSWORD • Bruce Forbes Brown from Middelburg, Mpumalanga has won a cooler bag worth R220 for his correct entry in our August-September 2023 issue. Congrats, Bruce! The previous issue's solution is on page 106.

KIDS’ CORNER

Jimny knocks it out of the park • He has not had as much fun overlanding as he had in a little Suzuki Jimny, says Mic van Zyl.

The final hitch for Leefek? • Leefek's recent announcement of halting caravan manufacturing leaves...
