JAC of all trades

The X factor • The Invader Duo X is the standard Duo model in the superlative. Yes, says Leon Botha, it is indeed bigger and better.

Mobile bush suite • The manufacturer ELXV's Ghari 4.7 gives new meaning to luxury in the bush, says Leon Botha.

Head to head

Blue blooded • Mahindra recently launched its flagship SUV. Cyril Klopper had a look to see if this vehicle is fit for a king.

Of vineyards and a river • Robertson is wine country – the area positively teems with winemakers. You'll find some great campsites here, and we visit two of them.

Our towing vehicle

Along the edge of the desert • This route of nearly 400 km takes you on an unorthodox series of Namibian back roads from Solitaire to the Erongo Mountain. Always aiming northwards, you keep the sunset – and the Namib Desert – to your left. On the way you'll see plenty of gemsbok but also some of the region's quirkier inhabitants, like Namaqua chameleons.

Escape to the north • The lesser-known northern part of Dinokeng's Big Five reserve now has its first campsite. Pack your camping gear and pay the Hayward's Game Lodge a visit.

Action & adventure • Head to a 4×4 trail in the Cape Sandveld where you and your family can camp, climb, swim and shoot guns.

A life worth living • They live abroad, but Philipp and Sarah Muckelmann have been to more Southern African destinations than many South Africans.

Shakedown cruise to Boegoeberg • Theunis van Zyl of Cape Town plays travel journalist and gives his impressions of his new camper bakkie and one of his favourite campsites.

Double the pleasure! • Double Mouth is a lovely camping and fishing spot – one of those hideouts to which one likes to return time and time again.

OYSTERS WITH VINAIGRETTE Fruits de mer for your amour

The boss from Beijing • Here's another affordable vehicle from China. As far as gadgets go, it's well-endowed given its price.

Made for towing • The new Land Rover Defender 90 can compete against the very best – and don't underestimate its towing capabilities.

Pieter Crouse, our towing expert, gives his opinion…

Staying power • How do you build an even better version of a caravan that is already good? The makers of the Tourer Enduro show us how.

Pick your pitch • Choosing a stand at a campsite is almost like moving into a new neighbourhood. Keep a few things in mind before you settle in.

HOW DO OUR FACEBOOK FRIENDS CHOOSE A STAND?

Driving beats flying • You're planning a visit to family in the Cape. Do you buy plane tickets for your household or take your bakkie to the seaside? Please consider the following…

Under the dome • There are many types of tents, but in our opinion, a dome tent offers the best in comfort, durability and efficiency.

Take 5 • Keep it simple around the campfire with only five ingredients per recipe – that's excluding items such as salt, pepper and oil. Tasting is believing…

Win a cooler bag worth R220!
