INBOX

Long live the Caravan Show! • This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Caravan Show and most of South Africa's manufacturers turned out in force to display their wares.

What's arriving in 2024? • Check out these 14 SUVs, towing vehicles and bakkies that recently arrived or are soon to make their debut on our shores. We're skipping facelifts and updates to highlight only brand-new cars.

Home away • If space and comfort are crucial for your camping trip, Leon Botha says you and your family can rely on Falkson's newly designed Family Camper.

Built like… a tank • Chinese vehicles are slowly but surely winning over South African hearts. Cyril Klopper found a good one.

To the land of the giants • Gonarezhou is Zimbabwe's unsung wilderness, with visitor numbers that pale in comparison to the country's more frequented national parks. Its remote, untouched expanse, accessible primarily by 4×4, makes it the ideal destination for an authentic off-road adventure.

Country charm • If you've ever camped on a farm, you'll know all about that profound sense of satisfaction and joy that settles over you. We set our sights on two tea farms beyond Citrusdal, in pursuit of that very feeling.

Montagu or bust! • David Kramer may have waxed lyrical about Montagu's muscadel, but he should have serenaded its caravan park instead, as this campsite is a hit.

Call of the back road • Instead of the mundane N8 between Kimberley and Bloemfontein, take an intriguing alternative: a gravel back rosd winding past small settlements, a large dam, and a lonely ghost town.

Twice bitten, not shy • After purchasing yet another Suzuki, Deon Boshoff of St Francis Bay decided it was time to explore more of South Africa.

Dam (n) lovely • You've toiled all week, it's time to set up camp at the Stompdrift Dam.

That little but extra • Bakkies with longer cabs are perfect for couples seeking more interior space. Ford provides a fine example.

Roughing it in style • Infanta's Enkulu 3 is tough and luxurious, boasting an array of clever features.

Your provisions and border crossings • You're aiming for one of our neighbouring countries and you want to take your own food – this is, after all, why you bought a fridge/freezer. But what do their laws say about bringing in meat, fruit and vegetables?

If the shoe fits… • Resorts and campgrounds are great spots to kick off your shoes and sink your toes into the sand. Yet, sometimes it's best to protect your feet – here are 18 savvy suggestions.

That's the wurst! • Get crafty in the kitchen with boerewors, bangers and smoked sausages.

CROSSWORD • Exercise your brain with this crossword puzzle. Research suggests it is not only beneficial to your language and cognitive skills, but it's also a great way to relax. Get a pencil (and eraser) and enjoy. The solution to the previous puzzle is on page 110.

KIDS'CORNER

First look at the 4-cylinder Cruiser 70 • Many people have commented on the latest update to the Land Cruiser and how Toyota have missed the mark to make it more user friendly. Mic van Zyl shares his thoughts.

Learn from Europe • When it comes to legislation on caravans and motorhomes, the South African authorities could well take a leaf out of Europe's book,...
