Real Classic

Mar 01 2024
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

flying IN STYLE • Is Tom Mellor's Triumph The World's Fastest Trident? Alan Cathcart tells its story…

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on… Summat to say? Send your comments, hints, tips, tales of woe and derring-don't to: RCHQ@RealClassic.net

TRUE ADVENTURE

HIDDEN HISTORY

THE LIGHTER SIDE

Solo BOXER • Life with a boxer single, more than half a twin? Martin Peacock explores the rare world of singular BMWs…

CZECH DATE • If you're still looking for love with a lightweight classic that embodies traditional values, Mark Holyoake has a two-stroke suggestion…

From a DIFFERENT PLANET • Space age – or stone age? Henry Gregson enjoys a close encounter that's out of this world…

THE HISTORY BIT • When Soviet motorcycles were exported, they were grouped together under the brand-name ‘Cossack’ despite coming from entirely different factories. So we see the Jupiter and Planeta sitting comfortably alongside the Voshkod and Ural offerings

SINGULAR Twins • Inspired by all the hype and RC interest, Frank Westworth went a-scramblin’, aboard a pair of tiny tigers…

BUYER'S EYE

DREAM • In his quest to secure a cheap, classic-ish commuter, Fred Harrington goes back to his roots to remind himself why the Superdream was so successful. Why not try budget biking with the 400's direct descendent?

SUNBEAM Centenary • A hundred years ago, a band of pioneering motorcyclists formed the Sunbeam MCC. To celebrate their centenary, they're holding a special event at Brooklands in March. Stuart Francis visited the historic circuit, while Rowena Hoseason hit the history

Golden GLOW • Once in its history, this 350 super-single blazed like its interstellar namesake. When it arrives at Paul Henshaw's workshop, its spark was all-but extinguished…

Plug-in PANTHER • Last time, David Moore demonstrated that his Panther project could be made mobile with electric motivation. But is it possible to go from proof of concept to a roadworthy motorcycle?

PUB TALK • As year openers go Stony Stratford on New Year's Day is hard to beat, both by date and by the vehicular attractions of every type on show…

Ollieś ODDJOBS • When MPG is more important than MPH, why not build a diesel Bantam? Ollie Meets Dave Musk, whos done exactly that…

TALES FROM THE SHED • Winter? Restricted riding opportunities? Plainly it's time to (attempt to) fix those irritating oil leaks. Frank gets a grip…
