Real Classic

May 01 2023
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

RIVET COUNTERS LOOK AWAY NOW

BIZARRE BY DESIGN • After the somewhat unexpected success of the original Funduro, BMW took a different turn with their city/street single-cylinder 650. The CS wasn't entirely everyone's cup of tea but, as John Jordan discovered, that makes them fairly affordable today…

TIGER LIGHT • Back in 1953, a family added a new bike and a new baby at much the same time. Henry Gregson discovers that the boy and the bike are still together after all those decades. But first, a bit of background by Rowena Hoseason…

Ride LIKE AN Apache! • The sporting twins from Matchless are oddly neglected today. Frank Westworth wonders why…

Many EMM ZEDS • Be warned. You see a single image in a magazine and – bam – four decades later you're still smitten by the things. At least, that's how it worked out for Tony Bishop…

TEARAWAY 250S • Royal Enfield's unit-construction 250 singles were tailor-made for the teenage tearaways of the 1960s. But how well have they stood up to the test of time? Paul Henshaw shares his hands-on experiences with Crusaders, Continentals, Clippers and more…

OUT OF THE ARCHIVE

RIDING LIFE • Remember that bike which you never should've sold? Peter Lord's Gold Star bounced back, fifty year after he bid it a fond farewell…

LEGGERA LUSSO! • Stu Thomson starts another project. This time he's chosen an MV Agusta 175cc single

FLAT OUT! • To you, it's only been a month since the last instalment of Odgie's ongoing project to build a world-beating vintage-class flat-tracker. But time is an illusion; shed-time doubly-so…

PUB TALK • A potted history of Royal Enfield's RE 125, and workshop commencement of the rebuild of an actual wartime WD/RE ’Flying Flea'…

Ollie's ODDJOBS • This month Ollie witnesses the arrival of a brand new British motorcycle. A new British motorcycle with girder forks, a rigid frame and a flat tank, no less. Welcome the Wardill 4!

TALES FROM THE SHED • OK! Frank's Norton is a runner. Whoopee. Now what?
