Real Classic

Apr 01 2023
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

THE Mystery BIKE • A little arcane Velocette history from Alan Cathcart, who uncovers a mystery and gets to ride a vintage-period cammy special…

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on… Summat to say? Send your comments, hints, tips, tales of woe and derring-don't to: RCHQ@RealClassic.net

TYPHOON ALERT!

SUPER SPORTS? • Did you miss out on an adventure in your youth? Edward Foreman spent the summer of ’77 with entirely the wrong type of transport. So he’s making up for lost time with a single-cam Honda…

A Better BLEND • Some implausible partnerships end in disaster. Others might be marriages made in heaven. Paul Miles encounters a special kind of greeph…

PRIDE OF Ownership • Some motorcycles are so special that it’s worth selling three other machines to become the temporary custodian of a real rarity. That just what Lynne and Jon Hurst did when they acquired a Series A HRD…

EURO-STAR • Built in Switzerland, based around an Italian engine and subsequently adopted by the Spanish. Mark Holyoake enjoys a continental Condor moment…

FOUR BY FOUR • Nope, not four bikes nor four cylinders. A pair of singles, in fact, boasting ground-breaking engineering from nigh-on a century ago. Rowena Hoseason reports…

SHOWSTOPPERS • Roll up, roll up! Rowena Hoseason takes you on a mystery tour…

OUTWARD BOUND • Adventures, autojumbles and grand days out: point your wheels this way!

DESTINY'S CHILD • Luke's Ariel 650 has been a lifelong project, one which placed him on a pathway towards practical problem-solving. Over time, they’ve both benefitted…

Classic techniques • If you own a Triumph, BSA or Norton then most tele forks can be bought off the shelf, at a price. For Stu Thomson's Italian tiddler, the solution wasn't quite so straightforward…

FLAT OUT ! • Odgie is building a world-beating vintage-class flat-tracker around a beefed up B50 engine. Last month he was waiting for wheels. This time: kinky pipes, too much anti-squat (what?) and fashioning a fuel tank. Oh, and about those wheels…

PUB TALK • A gruesome trip to Villiers Services, but with a satisfactory outcome…

Ollie's ODDJOBS • If BSA had adopted a Teutonic-type flat-twin for their post-war Sunbeam project, says Ollie (with a smile), perhaps it might’ve been something like this…

TALES FROM THE SHED • It’s been nothing but Norton for quite a while now. Frank reports progress. We’ll see We’ll believe it when we see it…
