Real Classic

Apr 01 2024
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

Real Classic

FROM THE FRONT

THE VIBRATIONLESS Motorcycle • The American motorcycle industry has always done things its own way. Alan Cathcart discovered a lot of history after riding a Pierce Four...

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on... Summat to say? Send your comments, hints, tips, tales of woe and derring-don't to: RCHQ@RealClassic.net

FLASH IN Black • Not all Golden Flashes were actually golden, you know. Frank Westworth sings Black Is Black, while riding this baby back...

A SHORT HISTORY OF AN ENGINE

Living WITH LEGENDS • Steve Troupe owns a veritable bevy of Ducati’s iconic bevel-drive twins, including a roundcase 750 and a genuine Mike Hailwood replica. Superficially similar, each offers a dinstinctly different ride. If you could own just one of them, which would you choose?

ALL-DAY 750

Green LIGHT • Paul Henshaw found a 1950s British-built 500 Bullet which was just too good to break for spares. So over the years he’s transformed it into a grunty, go-anywhere green-laner...

A VINTAGE ADVENTURE • If your lifetime ambition is to ride in the Banbury Run, then swapping a hundred- horsepower Triumph triple for a quirky German pre-war single makes perfect sense. At least, it did to Mark Brett...

AN AUSSIE EXPORT • Have you ever ridden a bike on holiday which was so good that you wanted to take it home with you? That’s exactly how much Rick Howell loved this smart Suzuki dirt bike. In this tale of two continents, Bones in Australia starts telling the story...

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS

THE HISTORY BIT

Some SEDATE Speed • Why would anyone attempt great speed aboard a very old motorcycle? Martin Peacock explains everything...

OUTWARD BOUND • Adventures, autojumbles and rides on great roads: point your wheels this way...

REALCLASSIC READING

CLUBMAN’S CORNER

STARFIRE SCRAMBLER • Odgie normally competes on vintage-class flat-trackers which he’s optimised for left-turn loops. But now the universe tempts him to build a BSA-powered bike to go in exactly the opposite direction...

PUB TALK • Bad weather almost always precedes the Bristol Show, but PUB went anyway...

Ollie’s ODDJOBS • Ollie encounters one of the very few EMC racers, talks to its proud owner, and wonders what if...

TALES FROM THE SHED • Frank appears to have teamed up with his very own Bonnie Prince. How did this happen?
