Rolls-Royce & Bentley Driver

May - June 2024
Magazine

Celebrating two of Britain's most prestigious automotive marques, Rolls-Royce & Bentley Driver magazine is the definitive publication for all Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiasts and owners. Principally focusing on the classic models of these luxurious car brands, it will offer comprehensive coverage of the most popular versions from both Rolls-Royce and Bentley, ranging from immediately after WW2 up to around the turn of the millennium. Undoubtedly, there will be some coverage of pre-war models, and we will feature modern classics such as the Bentley GT coupe. Whatever the model, however, our aim with Rolls-Royce & Bentley Driver magazine is to offer a mix of owners' stories, buying advice, technical hints and tips and inspiration on how to restore, maintain, and, crucially, enjoy your favourite Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

TWO BENTLEYS AND A TIGER • What has fixing the teeth of a Sumatran tiger got to do with a brace of Bentleys? The answer is Wayne Fitzgerald, the Australian vet who restores Bentleys with the same skills, love and affection he lavished on the tiger

REALLY LOVE THOSE TIGER TEETH!

AUCTION TRACKER • This edition's Auction tracker covers the full 12-month period from March 2023 to February 2024, with the trend assessed on a 12-month rolling basis vs. the previous two months.

MARKET WATCH • Each issue, we take a look at some of the most tempting cars for sale, from affordable modern classics through to the most premium-priced gems

A RARE BEAUTY • This 1950 Bentley Mk VI Drophead Coupé stands out because the coachbuilder, Abbott, chose a more advanced look than the standard Mk VI ‘face’, yet only 14 were sold. Naturally we jumped at the rare chance to drive one!

E.D.ABBOTT LTD

YOUR SHOUT • Got something to say about anything Rolls-Royce or Bentley related? Then we want to hear it!

BEHEADED BEAUTY • Cutting the roof off a Standard Steel saloon seems a distinctly after-market solution, but Rolls-Royce and HJ Mulliner performed it to great effect when these cars were new

GETAWAY CAR • There's something a little raffish about this handsome Bentley coupé, thanks in part to the potent V8 engine that's ready to get you out of trouble – or into it?

THE SPIRIT OF EXPERIMENTATION THE SUPERCHARGER SUPREMO • Charles Amherst Villiers is best-known for his involvement with the 4½-litre ‘Blower’ Bentleys, but his spirit was one of true experimentation and achievement in many fields

WORTH THE EFFORT • A patient, attentive rolling restoration has turned this S3 Flying Spur from an unroadworthy liability into a delightful grand tourer and a concours winner.

BEAUTIFUL BROCHURES

IDENTITY SWAP • This Corniche two-door saloon began life as a Rolls-Royce but later became a Bentley – does the change in identity alter the way we think of the car now?

BENTLEY'S BARREN YEARS: LARGE CARS IN SMALL NUMBERS

CELEBRATING THE LE MANS LEGEND • Much to look forward to in the BDC this year, with the centenary celebrations of Bentley's first of six wins at Le Mans central to the activities

WOMEN WITH DRIVE! • On Sunday 3rd March 2024, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club was delighted to host 38 members of the Women Driver's Social Club (WDSC) at its HQ, The Hunt House

AS PRESTIGIOUS AS THEY COME • Any Bentley Turbo RL is a special car, but this one was ordered for the Emir of Qatar with a host of special features. Could the new owner ship it to Australia? No worries!
